Dr Robyn Bell
Hi, I'm Robyn. Believe it or not, one of my passions in life is maths. My other passion is helping others to understand it.
I have a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with honours and a PhD in Computational Fluid Dynamics. Originally, I worked at CSIRO Division of Minerals in computational fluid dynamics and then stopped work for a number of years to raise my three children before joining the workforce again, this time in holiday accommodation.
Being a Mum of three (2 adult & 1 teen) is another qualification to add to my list. I am a patient, caring person and enjoy building rapport with my students. I just love working with them to see their "lightbulb moments" and their realisation that it's easier than they first thought.
In 2019, my eldest daughter was in need of some support in her VCE maths and chemistry and I was in my element. Once again, my passion for all things maths and science was ignited and I began tutoring again.
I just love maths and I get a real kick out of seeing students suddenly understand the concepts. I love seeing their increased confidence and belief in themselves.
From the age of 15, I began helping my peers to understand maths, chemistry and physics. I tutored a number of students through my university years including those doing VCE maths, chemistry and university level engineering.
For 6 years, I tutored students after school while still working my day job. In 2024, I realised that my heart was with my students more than my day job, so I left that job to create Maths & Molecules Tutoring, which began at full steam ahead at the beginning of 2025.
"My aim is to explain the theory in a simple way, so that the student not only understands, but feels motivated and enthusiastic towards their new knowledge and capabilities."
Sessions are based on the student's current school work and will be focussed on helping the student to understand the theory and build their confidence. Every student is different and our sessions are tailored to the needs of each student. Sometimes it's about understanding a difficult concept, or about getting ahead of the class and other times it's simply getting homework done with some motivational help. Whichever option you choose, it's always about learning, improving and fulfilling potential.
If so, you may get to meet Bentley the cocker spaniel. Bentley is a loveable boy who seems to like learning maths and a bit of chemistry as well. Perhaps it's the students he loves? Either way, if he had his way, he'd be in every session for the whole time. Unfortunately for Bentley, Robyn only lets him in to say a quick hello to dog lovers and get a cuddle... just enough of a break to relieve tired brains or for a good reward before we move on to a new problem to solve. Only for those who want to meet him of course, otherwise, he stays out.
